HELLO VISITOR Welcome to the RAF FMS 214 Squadron Web Site, I hope you will find the site interesting and informative. The main purpose of the site is to bring the veterans and families of the 214 together to ensure that the legacy of our heroes is passed on to our grandchildren, great grandchildren and all future generations of our families to come.
Primarily it deals with the war years ( WW2 ) and covers the bomber squadron's history , RAF home base's , aircraft , veterans & personnel , numerous squadron photographs , news clippings , military documents / propaganda, war posters, aircraft and crew losses , and a special section on members who became
POW 's (prisoner of war).
The site is, and always will be under development as new information is gathered and time is found to sort and post the things that are being worked on. Because it is incomplete you may find links that do not work and the layout of some pages may not make sense, please bear with me. Or, quit complaining and help : )
INSTRUCTIONS: To navigate the site the buttons (titles) listed within the border on your left are Sections, like chapters in a book. By clicking these it takes you to the start of that chapter. Along the top of each page (except this one) are buttons (titles) for the "individual pages" within each section. By Clicking on these you can move through each page in order or jump back and forth between pages. At the bottom of every page is a picture of a "hand pointing up", clicking on this will take you to the top of each page. Clicking on the "HOME" button on any page will bring you back here.
I invite all former squadron veterans, their friends and family members to participate in building and maintaining this site. It is not my site, it is your site, I am simply the "site caretaker" at this particular moment in time and welcome any and all help you care to give, be it criticism, typing, organizing, sorting or whatever. Regardless if you can assist or not, if you have "any" information, pictures or stories you can contribute please contact me by clicking on the mailbox below.

If you had a family member who served on the squadron, please consider helping with the care and maintenance of the site, no computer skills are required, just an interest in history and pride in our veterans. It is a task that gives much enjoyment and satisfaction but it does absorb some spare time. If you would be interested in helping out please get in touch. The torch has been lit, we must all work together if it is to be passed down through the generations to come.
If you have information to contribute, all materials or photos sent will be treated with the greatest care, loaded onto the site and returned promptly. Eventually, it is hoped to set up a separate page for each Squadron member detailing their profile, picture and perhaps an interesting story or two about their participation in the 214. (at the moment all veterans are listed together in the personnel section)
Although there is very little info yet, A section has also been included for the stories of those members of the squadron who ended up in POW camps. Imprisoned by barbed wire and machine guns for the best years of their youth, they yearned to get back into the fight.
A UNIQUE REMEMBERANCE DAY LINK
Well worth your time to visit

NOTE:
All information, pictures and stories on this site, unless otherwise indicated, are the property and copyright of the families of the 214 Squadron collectively or of an individual member. I am certain their is very little here that the veterans or their families would not wish to share, but you must seek the contributors or the site's permission first. (NOTE: This site is not about money and never will be - as such, the use of any materials from this site for any commercial purpose whatsoever is strictly forbidden.)
NOTE: I have been asked numerous times why there are not more pictures of the squadron and personnel. The answer is that candid unofficial photos of the squadron are very rare. The reason for this is that cameras were strictly forbidden and this policy was enforced out of the real possibility that the film or camera could fall into enemy hands thereby providing all sorts of clues to assist them that you or I might not consider. You will note that many of those found here are official pictures either sanctioned or taken by the RAF. In fact most people would be surprised to learn that very many Britain based squadron veterans do not have a single photograph, official or otherwise. This however mainly applies to the Squadrons based in Britain where enforcement was easier. It does not hold true with Squadrons based in other countries where often massive personal collections can be found.
